1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Select Tools. Select Accounts. The Internet Accounts dialog box will appear.
3. Click the Mail tab.
4. Click Add and select Mail.
5. In the Display name field, enter your name. Click Next.
6. In the Email address field, enter your Duke email address. Click Next.
7. In the My incoming mail server is a drop-down list, select IMAP.
8. In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server box, enter imap.duke.edu.
9. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type smtp.duke.edu. Click Next.
1. In the Account name box, enter your Duke NetID.
2. In the Password box, enter your account password.
3. Click Next. Click Finish. The Internet Accounts dialog box will appear.
4. Highlight the mail account you have just created and click Properties.
5. In the Properties window, click the Advanced tab. For the Incoming mail (IMAP) server, select the box labeled This server requires a secure connection (SSL). For the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, select the box labeled This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and than manually change the port to 465.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Close on the Internet Accounts window.
8. When you are prompted to download the existing message folders from the mail server, select Yes.
9. On the Show/Hide IMAP folders window, select OK. Your Duke email account setup is now complete. Either restart Outlook Express or select Send/Receive to have your email delivered from the server.
